Instructions

Watch the video to learn how to set up your Aqua Dragons tank, or read the full instructions below.

Step one: Assemble everything you need.

  • Your Aqua Dragons tank
  • The pipette for oxygenating the water (if your tank does not have a bubble pump built-in).
  • The small measuring spoon for the food.
  • One sachet of the Aqua Dragons eggs formula.
  • One sachet of Aqua Dragons food
  • 350-380 mls of bottled water (non-carbonated, non-mineralised) per sachet of Aqua Dragons eggs.

Step two: Set up your Aqua Dragons tank

Make sure the temperature of the water is between 17 and 30 degrees celsius.

Measure out the correct quantity of water: 350-380mls of water per sachet of eggs.

Thoroughly oxygenate the water by pouring it from one container to another and back again several times.

Add the water to the tank.

Empty the entire contents of the Aqua Dragons eggs sachet into the tank and stir gently to help dissolve the salts.

Do not add any food at this stage

Place your Aqua Dragons in a place where the water will remain between 17 and 30 degrees celsius at all times, and where they will receive plenty of natural light - direct sunlight is fine as long as the water doesn’t get too warm.

Step three: Wait for your Aqua Dragons to hatch

The process of hatching begins as soon as the Aqua Dragons eggs make contact with the water but at first they are too small to see. You can read more about their life cycle here.

While you’re waiting for your Aqua Dragons to hatch, make sure the water remains at the correct temperature (17-30°C) and the tank gets plenty of natural light.

Oxygenate the water at least every day with the bubble pump or pipette.

You may be able to see your Aqua Dragons using a magnifying glass in as little as 24 hours, and you should be able to see some with the naked eye within 3-4 days.

Two days after set up, start feeding with one small level aqua dragons feeding spoon full.

Step four: Care for your Aqua Dragons and watch them grow.

Aqua Dragons are most sensitive in their first weeks of life, so to avoid problems follow this advice:

Continue to oxygenate the water every day, using the pipette or bubble pump (depending on your model). You can also oxygenate the water by tipping the Aqua Dragons and their water from one container to another and back again.

Make sure the temperature remains in the correct zone (17-30°C) and that the tank gets plenty of natural light.

Feed your Aqua Dragons, but not too much. If there is food visible in the water, you probably don’t need to feed them. As a general guide, feeding every 2-3 days would be expected for many Aqua Dragons, and every 4-5 days for fewer. See our FAQ for more details.

Read about the Aqua Dragons life cycle and watch how yours change from nauplii to adults over time.

Observe your new pets closely; you could even make a diary to record how they grow! You will be able to see the difference between a female and a male, see how they grow through the different stage of the life cycle, how they eat and how they behave. You will even see differences between them, so you can tell them apart and be able to name them!
